This beautiful mourning ring features a wide band with a white enamel central band and two black slimmer bands of enamel. Gold lettering spans around the entirety; 'ROBT TOWNSEND - OB: 6 - APR:1795 - AET: 12 YS'.
White enamel was commonly used on mourning rings when the deceased was either unmarried or a child, reserved for those considered pure due to age, status, or character, and seen to symbolise innocence.
This ring is fully hallmarked by the Assay Office of London for 22ct gold in 1795.
