The Victorian 1897 Classical Diamond Ring
Sold November 2020
This bright old mine cut diamond held by golden claws on an 18 carat gold band carrying hallmarks from 1897 is a lovely example of quality Victorian ring making from the late 19th century.
A smooth, rounded band for comfortable wear leads up to a diamond held by 8 claws, all of which are in excellent condition. The diamond measures approximately 0.3ct (4.22mm).
The inside of the band shows light marks from a previous resizing but, like the Lion hallmarks from the London Assay Office and the 18 carat stamp, they are not visible when worn or noticeable to the touch.
At over 120 years old the ring is in good condition and has clearly been loved and well cared for.
