The Medieval Lionheart Antique Gold Ring

Sold for £2,795.00

Dating from the 12th to 13th Century, during the rule of red shielded kings like Richard The Lionheart this outstanding example of fine jewellery.

The principal feature of this ring is its cabochon (polished, unfaceted) garnet, held like a red droplet in an ornately carved setting and three golden arms. To each side is a beryl or glass cabochon in a circular setting, extending to decorated beast head motifs. The band has further chased decoration on its sides and base.

A similar ring for design, and structure can be seen in Rings: The Alice and Louis Koch Collection, Volume I(Cf. Chadour, A.B. 1994). Item 561.

Previously property of a Birmingham collector, before that the property of a Richmond gentleman (part of his family collection formed before 1980) passed down by descent.

This centuries old ring is in excellent wearable condition.
