The Antique Victorian 1837 Memorial Cameo Urn Ring
Sold June 2023
This antique early Victorian memorial ring is a stunning piece designed to commemorate the memory of a loved one. A beautiful black and white cameo depicts a funerary urn as the centrepiece. The intricate design of the urn is masterfully executed, with every detail carefully rendered in exquisite relief.
The ring's floral detailed shoulders enhance its beauty, showcasing delicate petals that lead into intricate leaves that wrap around the band's back. Inside the band, there is an elaborate engraving which reads 'The Gift of EA In memory of Ja..’ Armitage 06’ 15 Jan 1833 a..’70’.
This ring is fully hallmarked by the Assay Office of London for 18ct gold in 1837, the year of Queen Victoria's ascension to the throne after the death of William IV. There is some abrasion to the cameo, but the cameo is held well, and the ring is in good wearable condition.
