The Antique Georgian Pietra Dura Gemstone Ring
Sold December 2025
This exquisite antique Pietra Dura ring, crafted around 1820, features a unique floral mosaic set against a striking black onyx background. The delicate inlay work showcases a trio of gemstone flowers: a white mother-of-pearl bloom, a turquoise blossom, and a striking red coral flower, each surrounded by lush green leaves. These vibrant elements create a stunning contrast against the deep onyx, set in rich 18ct gold, with a textured band and trifurcated shoulders.
Pietra Dura, meaning 'hard stone' in Italian, was a highly prized decorative art form, often reserved for the most skilled craftsmen of the era.
This ring, circa 1820, tests as 18ct. The ring has a slim ornate band and is in good condition with light marks commensurate with age, slight wear and cracking to the design is visible.
