This early Victorian ring, fully hallmarked by the Assay Office of Birmingham in 1848 for 9ct gold features four rubies and 5 pearls in ornate settings. The ring's head joins to stylised shoulders that meet an ornately engraved band.
The ring's head is a locket with a sealed glass compartment to the rear containing a lock of hair. In Victorian Britain and earlier the keepsake of hair was a common practice for the memorial of a lost love.
