The Antique Early Nineteenth Century Diamond Serpent Ring
Sold November 2022
A stunning large old cut diamond for approximately 1.47ct lies in a claw setting which allows the wearer to see the unique shape of the gemstone.
Sitting within a blue enamelled coiled serpent, its tail whips up and around the neck leading your gaze up towards the head, showing off its eyes, each set with a pale green emerald and a part-cut diamond. There is foliate hand engraving to the shoulders which leads to a plain band.
The old mine cut diamond weighs approx. 1.47 carats, assessed colour M-tinted, assessed clarity SI1/SI2.
This ring, circa the early nineteenth century, has a hallmark but has become indistinct over time, it tests as 18ct. There is some enamel loss on parts of the serpent, but all stones remain well held, and the ring is in good condition with light marks commensurate with age.
