The Ancient Medieval Gilt Heart Ring

This gilt ring has a wide head featuring a heart design framed with lined detailing. The heart symbol was originally used to represent the heart-shaped fruit of the plant silphium and overtime has become an international symbol for love. The shoulders of this ring are a simple design.
This ring, circa 1100-1400 AD, this ring shows signs of wear but is still in fully wearable condition.

Provenance: Acquired as part of a group lot from an established ancient antiques gallery in north London. A photocopy of the certificate from the gallery will be included with your purchase. Formerly, in a private UK collection; from an old Oxford collection formed in the 1980s.
