The Victorian 1880 Ornate Emerald and Diamond Cross Engagement Ring
Sold August 2020
This 18 carat gold Victorian ring from around 1880 is set with rich green emeralds and has a rose cut diamond embellished cross of 12 diamonds with ornate scrolled shoulders.
The ring's condition is excellent, having undergone a significant repair, and there is some beautiful original work done here on the gallery and shoulders. The shape of the shoulders and gallery each create a series of small, deep points for light to enter, in the shoulders the light is captured to give that true feel of 19th century style with the dark & gold contrast, and around and under the gallery it is used to bring light behind the emeralds to allow them to dazzle. The repair work includes the addition of a rose coloured bearer behind the setting to give it form and stability, and the replacement of two lost emeralds with a matching coloured paste and garnet.
