In the 18th and early 19th century it was often extremely difficult and prohibitively expensive to source natural diamonds, this is how the paste rings came into fashion. Ring makers at the time used a combination of clever foil backing and faceted glass or other materials to create gem-like effects for their jewellery.
This rose coloured ring which tests as 18ct was constructed using this technique giving us what we see today as a antique piece of jewellery history which could be well suited as a non-traditional engagement ring. The band is in excellent condition as is the gallery and mount for the pastes.
