The George IV Diamond Surrounded Sapphire Ring
Sold November 2020
An engraved outer band leads to a cluster of diamonds in regal style presenting a central open-backed principal sapphire gem. This ring dates circa 1820, during the reign of King George IV, before Queen Victoria and even William IV.
Each shoulder splits into two rows of diamond cluster with 3 diamonds each, branching out around the sapphire with a further diamond to give a bright and large gallery of 11 diamonds around the stunning sapphire in the centre. The band is also delicately etched with scale-like detailing.
This ring is a showcase of 19th Century craftsmanship, it is a piece of statement jewellery and also a piece of history with around 150 years of love and care in its past. It is in excellent condition. The band is unmarked and tests as 14ct gold and sterling silver.
Size: O½ UK / Australia, 7¼ US / Canada
